Sugar Coated Images Tutorial

My favourite way to finish my Image Stamps is to colour them with chalks & finish them with Glamour Dust Glitter in 'Crystal' by DecoArt I just love a twinkly, sparkly, sugar-coated little image. And this glitter, to me, is just the best : )

Glittering images isn't a difficult technique to master. It is, in fact, one of the simplest techniques. It needs very little skill or equipment. And the finished images are always very, very pretty.

I'll show you how I do it.

You will need
Coloured Image
Sakura Quickie Glue pen
Glamour Dust Glitter in 'Crystal'. By DecoArt.
Soft Dusting Brush

1. Using your Sakura Quickie Glue Pen, apply the adhesive to a part of your image you want to glitter. Sakura Quickie Glue pens are a double adhesive - they can serve as both a temporary and permanent adhesive. When first applied, the adhesive is coloured blue. This will give you permanent adhesion. If left alone, and after a few minutes, the adhesive will become clear. This is temporary adhesion. We want our glitter to stay permanently on our image. So whilst the glue is still blue ...

2. Add your Glamour Dust Glitter,

3. And gently tap off the excess.

4. Work through the image a little at a time, adding adhesive, then glitter, each time tapping off the excess, until you've added glitter to all the areas you want to cover.

And that's it! You're done!

Now leave the image to dry.
After a couple of hours, the adhesive will have dried enough for you to gently dust the excess glitter from your image without the glue smearing & without losing the glitter you'd like to stay on your image.

After 24 hours it will all have dried completely. You can give it a final dusting & the glitter will now stay permanently on your image. There is no need to apply a fixative to it. And it will not fall off your image and into the envelope : )

This little brush is the brush I use for dusting glitter. It is just a simple make-up brush. The brush itself measures around 2" across and it is EXTREMELY soft. The bristles don't come loose and there are enough of them to find every last little bit of the loose glitter I need to remove when I am cleaning my image.

When I am using glitter, it is my best friend : )

  5. Emma,
I like I Kan' Dee by Pebbles & Dovecraft Chalks. Shimmer chalks are the easiest to blend and are very soft colours. Flat colours are slightly more difficult to blend but give a littl more depth of colour. So I had to have both : )
You can get the same soft colour effects with pastels too : )

  6. I also love Kan'dee chalks but also use Stardust Sakura pens like water colours.Scribble pen onto some acetate or an old tile and use a nearly dry fine waterbrush(Royal and Langnickel are cheap) or fine paint brush to fill in your inage. These give a sparkly effect but are a little more intense.Very pretty!!

I had never thought to use a soft brush at the end if the process. I suppose all my cards thus far have come with an extra dose of glitter in the envelope, ha, ha!
